To become a Member of the Institute an individual must:

• Apply for admission in writing to the Secretary on a prescribed form or online and supported by the Branch where the applicant resides
• Be admitted by the Executive Committee or;
• Be transferred from Corporate Member to Fellow on written nomination from the Branch where such Member resides or from Members of Council or the Executive Committee, or
• Be admitted as Honorary Fellow or Honorary Member for life or for a limited specified period which may be extended from time to time by a unanimous decision by Council on recommendation by the Executive Committee
• Be allocated to a geographical region based on his/her address and one or more technical divisions of his/her choice.
